Why Is My Baby Hiding During a 3D Ultrasound?

begins, your little one decides to hide behind their hands, feet, placenta, or umbilical cord.

Why won’t my baby show their face during an ultrasound?

1. Baby is facing your back
Some babies prefer to face toward the mother’s spine. When this happens, the ultrasound may show the back of the baby’s head instead of the face.

2. Baby has hands or feet near the face

Although this is adorable to watch, hands, arms, knees, or feet can partially cover the face during a 3D ultrasound.
3. The placenta is close to the baby’s face

What is the best time for a 3D ultrasound?
For many pregnancies, the ideal time for detailed 3D, 4D, or HD ultrasound images is around: 26 to 32 weeks.
During this stage, babies are usually developing more facial fat while still having enough room to move.
For twins, families may want to schedule earlier because space becomes limited sooner.

2. Schedule during your baby’s active time

3. Eat your normal meal before your visit
Unless your healthcare provider has given you different instructions, try not to arrive overly hungry.
